Shiori's engagement ring Maya finds the ring in her bag and, quite worried, wonders how it got there. Masumi is in his office when a telephone call from Takamiya's family is passed on to him. Shiori doesn't feel well. Something happened and she is shocked. Masumi is driving to Takamiya's place. Shiori is waiting for him and promises herself that she will erase Maya from Masumi's heart. Masumi reaches Shiori at her place. The woman is in tears; she even slaps Masumi on his hand when he tries to help her get up.
Then she confesses to him that she lost her engagement ring and that she is so sorry that she would like to die.
Masumi encourages her to try and remember what happened; she is sure that she still had the ring when she met Maya.
She begs him not to get angry: in fact, she went to visit Maya only to help him, her soon-to-be husband... Suddenly she seems to remember that Maya was very attracted by her ring... She frowns, and then mumbles: "No, it can't be..."
Masumi asks Shiori if she is suggesting that it was Maya who stole the ring, but the woman defends Maya: even if the young actress hates him, she is not the kind of person who would do something like that.
Masumi, with a serious, thoughtful look, confirms that Maya wouldn't do anything like that: he knows this for sure, better than anyone else.
At these words, Shiori gets upset and starts crying again. Masumi cheers her up, promising that he will buy her a bigger ring.
Masumi is shocked. Maya can't be responsible for what happened... Can she?
Maya, still convinced that the ring entered her bag by accident (!), rushes to the place whose address she has been told on the telephone to reach Shiori and give her back the ring. The place is a luxurious wedding dresses boutique. Maya meets Shiori in a private room where she is trying her wedding dress on.
The young actress is clearly upset, but she praises Shiori who asks her if she thinks that Masumi will like it.
Suddenly, Shiori decides that it's time to stop with the wedding dress, since a friend came to visit her, and invites Maya to have a drink together. Maya hesitates, but Shiori orders some blueberry juice and cakes and sends everyone else away, keeping her wedding dress on.
Shiori looks at the clock with a smirk on her face, then while Maya is about to take the ring out of her bag, she interrupts her asking to bring her the glass of juice because she doesn't feel well.
Maya immediately heads for the table, while Shiori collapses onto her and the glass. Shiori's dress gets stained and the mad woman starts screaming!
Perfect timing. Masumi has just arrived; he was climbing the stairs when he heard his fiancée scream.
When he enters the room, he sees what happened and shouts at Maya.
Maya tries to stand up for herself and Shiori pretends to defend her, but then she faints...
Then the shop assistants give Maya her bag and mean to send her away. Maya is shocked, she drops her bag and the ring rolls out of her bag.
Everybody is astonished.
Masumi picks up the ring and questions Maya. Maya claims that she doesn't know how the ring got there and that she came to bring it back, but Masumi doesn't believe her. She could have used a better excuse; he can't believe she could act like that; he thought she was a better person... He shouts at Maya that he knows she hates him, but his fiancée shouldn't be involved!
Maya is petrified, while Shiori looks very satisfied...
Maya eventually goes away, shocked, thinking about Masumi's words.
Shiori asks Masumi to forgive Maya since now she has her engagement ring, and Masumi is touched by his kind-hearted fiancée.
He still can hardly believe that Maya could do what she did.
Shiori promises herself that she will conquer Masumi's heart.
Masumi is in his office. He still can't believe what happened, and he can't believe he said those things to Maya either.
Mizuki enters the room to bring some coffee. She comments on what happened: it's hard to believe, yet if Masumi was there and saw everything, there is not much to add and there is no point in trying to understand.
Maybe Maya was jealous of Shiori? Masumi objects that this is impossible. Then, it can only be that Maya wanted to hurt Masumi, she still hates him... But Mizuki is not convinced: Maya has always been very straightforward; she doesn't need to vent her hate on a third person.
Masumi agrees... He knows that very well.
Mizuki is puzzled. Her female instinct tells her something is wrong. Anyway it's late and she has to go; before closing the door, she stops to ask Masumi if he is in love with Shiori. Masumi is shocked: obviously he is; she is his fiancée. Mizuki is not convinced...
I see. Since she's your fiancée you have to love her, right? It's strange... Your face didn't look happy at all...

Shiori's tantrum (again) Mizuki has been asked by Masumi to take something to Takamiya's place. While in the house, she notices some men who are re-arranging the flowers in the house. Apparently the flowers have to be all blue this time.
Shiori, who hasn't seen Mizuki, enters the room where all the flowers are.
Among the flowers yet to be arranged, there are some purple roses. Shiori comments on their beauty and then cuts them all with some scissors. She remarks that she hates purple roses, and she orders the men not to bring those flowers any more.
Mizuki is confused and shocked.
        Ayumi's special rehearsals continueUtako and Ayumi rent a studio outside Tokyo and the terrible rehearsals continue.            Hayami in business with the TakamiyasMasumi is at Takamiya's place. He is driving a bargain with Takamiyas and having lunch with the family.
Shiori's grandfather is very pleased. He comments that soon Masumi will be also the manager of Takamiya's business. Masumi replies that he is a little too young to think about that, and Shiori asks her grandfather not to joke...
Mizuki shows up. She needs to talk to Masumi Hayami about a bomb probably sent by the Yakuza. While leaving, Mizuki remembers Shiori tearing the roses apart, and finds the whole situation strange. Rehearsals at Kid's studio.
Maya is depressed, Sakurakoji is cheering her up. He reminds her of her purple rose fan. He will surely send her loads of roses for her first show! She has to do her best for him!
She suddenly feels better. She thinks of Masumi. He is in love with Shiori, but when Maya is on stage, he is her number 1 fan.
Sakurakoji looks at her. He knows she is in love with her fan, but for the moment he seems happy with this.
Then a packet is delivered to Maya, together with a purple rose. Maya opens it, and she finds all her photos torn apart. She is totally shocked!
Together with the packet, there is a card that reads:
"These are the last roses. I am very disappointed by you as an actress and I will no longer come to any of your shows."
Maya feels lost. She falls down her knees. Masumi abandoned her. What is she going to do now?
All the actors comment that it was a mean gesture. Kuronuma tells Maya to go home: she cannot rehearse in that state.
Also, when it's the moment to be sad, Maya would better do it without trying to repress her feelings: every experience will be useful for acting.
While Maya is going away, Sakurakoji thinks that he will never forgive the purple rose fan for making Maya suffer so much.
      A piece of Maya's photo in Shiori's car?Daito HQ. Mizuki informs Masumi that another threatening telephone call has arrived. About the 12th only on that day...
Probably it's connected to the rock band Fire X, produced by Daito; there has been an explosion recently during one of their concerts and one fan was injured.
Miss Mizuki suggests that the police is informed. Probably the responsible is Hokuto Production, the previous agency; they might be supported by Yakuza.
Masumi took Fire X away from them, so he is in danger as well...
Masumi has to go to a meeting, and asks Mizuki to go to an art exhibition with Shiori: once again, he is busy and he cannot keep his promise.
When Shiori sees miss Mizuki, she understands that there is nothing she can do: business is business. She almost faints; she reassures Mizuki that she doesn't need a doctor, but she asks her to get her pills from the car.
Mizuki enters the car and notices a piece of one of the photos of Maya, evidently torn into pieces. Masumi's secretary is shocked.
On the way home, Maya thinks about Masumi; she thought that the purple roses would always be the bound between them.
Now that he abandoned her, she feels unable to go on.
It can't just all end like that. She will go to Masumi and explain everything to him, about Shiori's ring, the wedding dress...
She will tell him that she knows he is her purple rose fan!
She is not sure how she will manage to meet him, but she will find out how. She is not going to give up like that.
It is late evening. Maya is outside Daito offices. She has been told that Masumi was very busy and that she couldn't meet him, so she is waiting for him in the parking area.
She understood that she loves him deeply. There's nothing she can do about it. Even if her feelings annoy him, she wants to confess them to him.

Masumi is attacked! Shiori arrives to Masumi's office too. The man is surprised at her visit; she starts complaining that he is still at work, that he promised her they would go out, blah blah blah. Masumi apologizes: the meeting was not planned, but he should have called her to apologize.
Shiori can't help asking him:
"Masumi-sama, what's more important, your job or me?"
Masumi changes topic. He apologizes again and again. He offers to drive her home, it's late and her family must be worried.
Also, he will do his best to meet her on the following Sunday; she is not happy but after another set of apologies, Masumi suggests that she uses that time to decide where to go. Anyway, Shiori wants him to take her where he likes for once, so he will have to decide this time.
The couple is about to go out but Shiori forgets her lipstick so she has to go back and find it.
Masumi gets out of Daito's HQ. There are three men who are waiting for him; they say to each other that they must act now that he is alone, but before they move Maya appears and approaches Masumi.
Masumi is really surprised! Maya informs him that she really needs to talk to him: she doesn't know how Shiori's ring entered her bag, she did not pour the fruit juice on Shiori's wedding dress on purpose...She begs Masumi to believe her; crying, she tells him that she doesn't want to be misunderstood, because he is her precious... Her precious...
Masumi is speechless: Precious...?
Then Maya cannot go on, she tries to run away but Masumi grabs her by the shoulder.
What did she want to say? She came all the way to meet him, now she has to tell him why!
Then the three thugs interrupt them. They have something to say to Masumi.
In the meantime Shiori arrives to the hall of the Daito building and sees Masumi and the three men through the glass doors.
The three men claim to be "allies of justice", who don't forgive those who make the weak suffer, and Masumi understands that they do work for Hokuto Production.
Masumi orders Maya to go away, but one of the three stops her: she could call for help if allowed to go. Then the man sees her face and he realizes that she is one of Daito's products.
Masumi shouts at him to let her go, as she is not involved, but they intend to keep her so that Masumi can understand how it feels to have a product stolen by another agency.
When the knife the thug is holding gets close to Maya's neck, Masumi starts punching all of them, and then embraces Maya.
Masumi tells the three thugs that he will not let them touch Maya; she is not involved in Daito's business!
Then he adds that she cannot have her face ruined just before such an important performance.
The three men understand how important Maya is for Daito and suggest that Masumi doesn't let them injure her.
Maya is terrified but Masumi tranquillizes her and embraces her even tighter (!).
The three men start hitting Masumi, who is protecting Maya with his body; Maya would like to go away but Masumi orders her not to move and not to forget the Crimson Goddess. While being protected, Maya understands that Masumi cannot be the person who tore her photos apart. She doesn't know who's responsible for that, but she knows now it cannot be him.
In the meantime, Shiori is still looking at all of them astonished and wonders why Masumi is doing all this for Maya...
At some point Maya shouts to stop and finally Shiori asks for help.
A security man arrives at last. Masumi looks at Maya and asks her if she has been injured. She confirms she is all right and he is pleased.
Masumi asks the security guard not to call the Police: he doesn't want the news to be spread and he doesn't want Maya to be involved.
Then he faints.
Back in Masumi's office. Masumi is still laying down unconscious and Maya is next to him. The security man gives her a first aid kit to use while waiting for a doctor and leaves them alone.
Shiori is in infirmary because her blood pressure went down; the security man will take care of her. He asks Maya to call him if anything happens.
Maya is crying next to Masumi. She thinks of what has happened, of what Masumi has done for her and she realizes that she has finally seen the real heart and the true feelings of Masumi, hidden behind his mask.
Yet until that moment she hadn't understood anything. She apologizes to him and kisses him on the forehead.
Even if unconscious, Masumi feels the teardrops falling on his face.
Maya takes his hand and tells him that he is her Isshin; she starts reciting the goddess's words: he is part of her, she is part of him.
"My love, I will not leave you anymore..."
Masumi dreams of Akoya who talks to him as if he were Isshin and kisses him on the mouth.
Masumi is regaining consciousness. He can hear Akoya's words from a distance... He wonders if it's Maya's voice. It is Maya indeed, who is talking to him while kissing his hand... She has finally understood Akoya's love! Masumi, in a sort of dream, sees Akoya who is getting further and further away from him... He tries to reach her... He wakes up and...
Maya is not there. Shiori is standing in the room.
It's morning already. Masumi's head is aching, and he can't remember what happened. He asks Shiori if Maya has been there, but his fiancée claims that Maya ran away as soon as the three thugs approached them. Masumi is convinced that it was all just a dream...

| Volume 46 Shiori entered Masumi's office in a rush, found Maya taking care of him and shouting sent her away! The couple goes away. A cleaner finds a handkerchief with stains of blood in Masumi's office. At Kids Studio, Maya is clearly happy. Sakurakoji is very surprised to see her like that, after what happened the previous day. But Maya explains to him that it wasn't her purple rose fan who tore the photos apart. Sakurakoji is impressed by Maya's faith in her fan. The day after the attack, Masumi is having a shower at his place (!). He keeps thinking of the previous night. Everything seemed so real! But the words he heard from Maya/Akoya were not the words he used to hear during the rehearsals...
Also... He wonders what Maya was about to say when she came to see him at his office...
“Her precious...?”
Hijiri, pretending he is a journalist, goes to the Kids Studio to meet Maya.
While waiting for her, he overhears two actresses who comment on the fact that her fan sent her back her photo album with all the photos torn apart.
When Hijiri sees Maya, he's surprised: she looks very serene!
Maya promises that she will do her best for her precious fan, and asks Hijiri to tell her mysterious fan that she trusts him.
Hijiri understands that he doesn't need to tell her that it wasn't her fan who destroyed the photos.
Masumi is back to work. He receives a letter from Shiori.
His fiancée asks him to meet after work. She wants to show him a beautiful place. It's a present from her and it really means a lot to her. As a favour, he must leave his mobile phone at home, so he doesn't think of business while they are together. A car will pick him up at 5pm.
Masumi is quite surprised and wonders what it is.
In the meantime, a middle aged woman visits Maya at Kids Studio. She has a message from Shiori.
The woman asks Maya not to meet Masumi again. She has already created a lot of problems: stealing Shiori's ring, ruining Shiori's wedding dress and now being involved in the latest accident. Maya tries to explain that these are all misunderstandings but the lady gives her an envelope and quickly goes away.
The envelope contains a 10,000,000 Yen cheque!
Kuronuma is very angry. He orders Maya to give that money back to Shiori. He calls the Takamiyas and finds out where Maya can find Shiori. So Maya leaves the studio to go and meet her.
It is 5pm. Masumi is getting out of his office as he promised Shiori.
A cleaner gives him the handkerchief stained with blood that he found in the morning in his office. Masumi wonders if it belongs to Maya...
Shiori is in her car. The traffic is slow because of a car accident, so she is running late! Maya rushes to the Astoria cruise ship, and goes on board even without a ticket. She is desperately trying to find Shiori.
Masumi is on board too. A man is showing him what Shiori booked for the two of them. Masumi is informed that the Astoria is a luxury one-night cruise ship for busy business people. Masumi is shown the double bedroom the two are supposed to spend the night in... He is outraged and wants to get out of the ship. While the other man is trying to convince him to stay, Masumi sees Maya blocked by some crew members. She is looking for someone, but she doesn't have a ticket. Masumi claims that he knows her so the crew apologize and go away.
In the meantime, Shiori is still stuck in traffic. She won't be able to reach the cruise ship on time and she can't even inform Masumi since he doesn't have his mobile phone with him!
Masumi and Maya stare at each other, astonished.
The cruise ship leaves, and Shiori is NOT on board!

| Volume 47   Explanations and apologies Maya and Masumi are having dinner together on the cruise ship.
They are the center of attention and Maya feels embarrassed.
Masumi doesn't mind and asks her if it annoys her that people notice them. Maya says that it's not a problem for her, but he is engaged...
Masumi starts teasing her: nobody would think they are a couple, maybe uncle and niece or a man escorting a friend's daughter... Maya gets angry.
People sitting at the tables start talking about them.
Masumi ends the conversation by saying that he is simply the president of an Art Production Company and Maya a young actress.
During the dinner a message by Shiori is delivered to Masumi. The message explains that the woman wasn't able to arrive on time because she was stuck in traffic. When Maya understands that Masumi was on the cruise ship for a date with Shiori she gets sad. Masumi sees her change of mood and asks her why she wanted to see Shiori. Finally Maya tells him about the cheque. Masumi is surprised. Maya tells him that she is not going to accept it. She also claims her innocence about the wedding dress and the engagement ring.
Masumi smiles.
He tells Maya that it would be a problem for him not to be able to see her any longer, since he never gets bored when he's with her.
He tears the cheque apart:
“This is how I feel about it”.
He will think about giving it back to Shiori.
“Sorry for doubting you, chibi chan”.
  Maya has grown up!There is a show scheduled for the evening.
Masumi gets Maya an elegant dress and accessories for the evening and waits while she is getting ready in a beauty salon.
When Maya shows up with the dress and make up he blushes!
The beauty salon assistant teases him by saying that Maya is so beautiful that it's impossible to look at her without being enchanted.
Masumi is surprised to see Maya as an "adult" and thinks that it's the first time he has thought she is beautiful.
Maya thanks Masumi but soon he starts teasing her again.
He suggests that now she can play the role of a lady, and she could do that for him. She gets angry and claims that she could do that, but not for him.
Masumi bursts into laughter and remarks that she is still a child inside.
“Don't call me chibi-chan! I am a grown up! I can drink alcohol and one day I will be able to get married!”
“Maya, you've become a woman without me noticing it. When I met you for the first time you were 13... And one day you will get married too...”
“Yes... One day... Like you are going to marry Shiori...”
Masumi's expression changes; he looks unhappy and upset. Maya is surprised at this change, but she believes that Masumi is sad because Shiori couldn't make it for the date.
      Spending the evening togetherMaya and Masumi go to the theatre to enjoy the show. Masumi is quiet, still upset by Maya's words about marriage. After the show, Masumi invites Maya to dance. She hesitates, since she is clumsy, but thanks to Masumi's help they dance so well that when they're finished people around applaud.
Masumi confesses to Maya that he never enjoyed dancing unless he's dancing with her, but he keeps calling her chibi-chan.
When the music is over, Maya and Masumi go outside on the deck.
Maya observes that this is the second time she has seen such a starry sky, and on both occasions Masumi was by her side...

The key Maya and Masumi are walking towards the room booked by Shiori. Masumi leads the way. He is expressionless and quiet. He is holding the key tight in his hand. They arrive in front of the room. Maya can't believe they have the same room to share!
Masumi opens the door and invites her in. Maya is embarrassed. Finally Masumi smiles. She doesn't have to worry; in fact, he tried to ask for another room for her, but the cruise ship was fully booked. So, Maya will sleep in the room and Masumi will spend the night on a sofa... Masumi leaves the room.
Maya is puzzled. She notices her old shoes and clothes in a bag. She turns to get them and she sees the double bed. Then she remembers that the room was supposed to be for Shiori and Masumi to spend the night together...
She starts crying. She doesn't want to sleep in that room!
Masumi is on the deck, sipping on whisky and thinking, when Maya appears.
She is wearing her own clothes again. She is wiping off her tears. Masumi asks her why, so Maya gives him back his presents. She thanks him for the marvelous evening: it was like a dream, but her Cinderella's time is over and she is the same old Maya again.
Together with the clothes, she gives him the key: she will be the one to sleep on a sofa - after all she is quite used to that. Also, she cannot sleep in a room that was supposed to be for Masumi and Shiori!
While saying this, she starts crying again, and turns away. Masumi asks her not to leave: he doesn't understand what the problem is. In fact, he didn't prepare any room for Shiori. It was a surprise by Shiori, probably because he is always busy at work.
While explaining all these things to Maya, Masumi wonders why he is doing this.
Anyway he goes on: he wanted to get off the cruise ship as soon as he found out about Shiori's plan, but then he saw Maya... He doesn't want to sleep in that room either...
Masumi throws the key away into the sea...
Maya wonders if by any chance Masumi feels the same as she feels... But this is not possible, he is 11 years older, and engaged... Masumi puts his jacket on Maya's shoulders: the night is getting chilly. Maya asks him if she can stay there by his side for the night. Of course she can. Masumi points out that now none of them has a room to spend the night in. They both burst into laughter. Maya thinks how incredible the situation is. She used to hate him so much, and now she is happy just staying by his side!
Masumi asks her to keep the clothes he bought for the evening, they look good on her. Maya is glad to accept.
Maya and Masumi spent the night sleeping on two sofas. Maya is woken up by the sunlight. She opens the door and is dazzled. She goes back to Masumi, grabs him by the arm, and takes him out to see the sun rise. She tells him that she is so happy that he managed to see it!
Masumi wonders why she is saying these things. After all, she hates him... Or maybe...
Eventually Masumi remembers the handkerchief Maya left in his office on the day he was attacked.
He takes it out of his pocket and gives it to Maya, saying that she forgot it in his office; he apologizes for it got stained with blood when she was cleaning his face.
Maya blushes. Is it possible? Did he realize that it was Maya who stood by his side when he wasn't conscious?
Masumi is shocked. Why isn't Maya looking at him in the eyes?
Maya takes the handkerchief and thanks him.
Masumi is puzzled. Then it was really Maya.
“Maya... Was it you? Maybe then that dream... Those tears... Akoya's words... Is it possible that...?”
    Akoya's words for Isshin, Maya's words for MasumiMasumi turns to Maya and asks her to recite Akoya's love words to Isshin. Just for him.
Maya can't help thinking that those are the same words she said to him on the night he was attacked... So maybe he heard them...
“Show me your Akoya”.
“My Akoya, my love for Isshin... My feelings for Hayami-san... Here...”
Maya accepts.
Early in the morning, on a cruise ship deck, with Masumi Hayami as only spectator, Maya takes off her shoes and plays Akoya's words.
She looks very self-confident.
Maya concentrates on acting.
There is a lot of space on the empty deck, but Maya gets closer to Masumi even though she turns towards the sea.
Masumi is surprised. Does she want to act that way?
Maya turns to him; she smiles at him as if he were Isshin. Then she starts reciting Akoya's words.
Masumi starts remembering something... He thinks he's heard those words already...
At some point he shouts at her to stop. Maya is shocked.
Masumi apologizes and asks her to repeat the latest part.
While listening again, he is more and more convinced that those words are the ones he heard that night after he was attacked... So... It wasn't a dream... So, those tears.. Those lips... Maya... Why would she have done something like that... Could it be...?

Akoya's words for Isshin, Maya's words for Masumi While acting, Maya in her heart talks to Masumi...
“Hayami-san, I love you, Akoya's feelings are mine and her love for Isshin is like mine...”
Then she reaches out for Hayami's coat on the railing and while still playing Akoya she draws it close to herself. Then she looks at Masumi, brushes his cheek and says:
“You are the other part of me, I am the other part of you”.
Masumi blushes and can't keep his eyes off her.
“I can't resist any longer, I give up! I can no longer deceive my heart like this!”
Masumi embraces Maya. Maya is shocked and puzzled.
Masumi: “It's fine, you don't need to continue... I understood, I understood...”
Some people arrive on the deck to watch the sunrise and they see from a distance Masumi with his arms around Maya. They start thinking that the two are actually a couple.
Maya tries to move away but Masumi holds her tight.
Maya: “Hayami-san, people will talk about us...”
Masumi: “It doesn't matter even if the rumor gets bigger than yesterday at the restaurant... Does this bother you, the fact that they could talk about us?”
Maya: “No, Hayami-san...”
Masumi: “Then please, let's stay like this some more time... Please...”
Finally Maya returns the embrace. She holds him tight and says yes.
The other people, embarrassed, leave.
Masumi asks Maya since when she stopped hating him. She admits hating him at the beginning, but then... It was a misunderstanding... And she adds that she thought he considered her only a kid...  Masumi slowly moves away. He apologizes to Maya for surprising her. He stares at the sea.
He tells Maya that since she doesn't want to be called chibi-chan, he is not going to call her like that anymore. From now on, he will call her Maya.
Maya accepts and blushes.
Masumi pretending to be annoyed asks not to be called businessman without scruples and similar names. Maya is surprised that he is aware of this... He smiles at her, she bursts into laughter.
“Hayami-san... Purple rose fan... My Daddy Long Legs who supported me in secret for such a long time... The most precious fan of mine... How much I have wanted to meet you... Who could imagine that you were so close... I am not sure why you keep your identity secret... But there must be a reason... It doesn't matter now... The important thing is staying together... I will wait... Until the day when you decide to reveal your identity to me...”
Then they spot an island.
Masumi explains to Maya that that is Izu. He's got a secret house on the beach where he can find peace when he needs to run away from everything. Only an old friend knows about that place. And a few exceptions.
Maya thinks about Shiori and becomes sad, but doesn't want to talk about this to Masumi.
Masumi then goes on talking. He explains how by staring at the ocean and the sky he can get free from everything. He talks about the crabs carried by the waves. She smiles at him.
Then he carries on telling her how he can see the stars from the balcony at night and forget about everything by listening to the sea waves. He can really be himself when he's there.
Maya is surprised; she really didn't think he was such a person.
Masumi: “Next time... Would you like to come?”
While saying this, Masumi blushes and covers his mouth with his hand... Then he adds:
“If you don't want you can say no...”
Maya: “Can I really? To a place that is so important for you? Can I really come? I would really love to walk barefoot along the white beach and see the crabs... And look at the stars from the balcony.”
Masumi: “Are you sure? There's going to be only me there...”
Maya suddenly realizes what that means... The two of them alone on the balcony... A starry night... Surely she won't be able to go back home that night!...
Masumi is waiting. Maya's heart is beating fast. Finally she says yes.
Masumi (blushing and shocked): “Really?”
Maya: “Yes, if I don't create any problems...”
Sakurakoji has been told from Kuronuma to pick up Maya, and he is thinking she will be surprised to see him. It's breakfast time, but Maya and Masumi are still on the deck, staring at the sea.
Masumi once again remarks how comfortable, relaxed and honest he feels when he is with her, in spite of their difference in age, education, etc.
Maya, a little surprised, rests her head on his shoulder.
Both blush.
He puts a hand around her shoulders. They stare at the sea, aware that those moments are about to end. But this doesn't matter; they are happy to be so close.
“Ah, how I wish time could stop now!”

Back to reality...? At the port, Shiori is waiting for Masumi. The cruise ship is heading back to the port.
Everybody comments on how beautiful the journey has been.
Maya almost nostalgic, thinks to herself:
“So, it's over. Once we're off this cruise ship, both Hayami-san and myself will be back to the real world...I'm scared, I'm afraid that all of this will remain a wonderful dream.”
In the meantime Masumi is paying the bill to a lady who will have the dress he bought delivered to Maya's house.
Maya thinks that Hayami-san lives in such a harsh world that she cannot even imagine. She knows only theatre and rehearsals... Surely to his eyes she is just a child...
By then Masumi has come close to her and puts his arm around her shoulders. Without looking at her, he asks her if she will trust him from now on, no matter what happens.
They might not be able to see each other for a while, but he will endeavor to meet her in Izu. Will she wait?
Maya confirms she will.
The cruise ship has arrived, people are getting off.
Shiori sees Masumi and immediately notices Maya... Maya? Why is she there?
Masumi explains to his fiancée that Maya came to the ship to find her, and she was aboard when the ship left; Maya wanted to give something back to her...
While saying this, Masumi shows Shiori the cheque, torn into pieces, and tells her that it was him who tore it apart.
Masumi and Maya walk past Shiori, he is determined to drive Maya home.
Shiori is shocked and (surprise, surprise) she faints.
Masumi then has to help her. He shouts to people to call a doctor.
Then he apologizes to Maya. He'll walk her to where she can get a taxi... Is this OK with her?
Maya insists that she wants to stay with him, but Masumi doesn't want her to be involved...
  Sakurakoji is waiting for Maya. He sees Masumi walking and Maya following him. He cannot help wondering why they are together.
Maya sees him and his motorbike, and she is surprised too. So he explains that he heard from Kuronuma where she was; then he asks Masumi if he was on the ship as well.
Masumi against his own will approaches Sakurakoji and asks him to drive Maya safely home. They are both actors for the Crimson Goddess; he'd better drive carefully.
After asking Sakurakoji once more to take care of Maya, Masumi goes away.
Maya is shocked.
Sakurakoji is suspicious...
“The way Hayami-san was talking... What is this... There's something strange... They are both strange... I don't understand...”
He tries to convince Maya to get on his motorbike, but Maya has still something important to say to Masumi... Something she hasn't told him... But she must...
She apologizes to Sakurakoji; he'll have to drive home alone.
Maya runs to Masumi, who enquires why she hasn't gone home with Sakurakoji.
She informs Masumi that she needs to tell him something.
She embraces him:
“Hayami-san, I am a girl 11 year younger than you, I am unworthy, I know only the world of theatre and rehearsals, so... I am not able to understand you, now I would be only a bother to you but... Please wait for me! I will become an adult, very soon I'll be a grown up, wait for me, Hayami-san!”
Masumi, puzzled until that moment, returns the embrace and reassures her:
“Definitely! I will... You too, wait for me and trust me!”
Sakurakoji sees them and is utterly shocked. Is he dreaming? It's not possible... Maya and Masumi... It has to be a dream! Masumi sends Maya away; he goes to talk to the nurse who is taking care of Shiori. When asked about the relationship he has with the patient, he claims that they are engaged, with a blank, expressionless face.
The doctor explains Shiori has nothing serious.
While sitting next to Shiori, Masumi wonders why she lied about the night when he was attacked. Why did she say that Maya went away? And why did she offer Maya money to take her away from Masumi?
Sakurakoji is driving home and cannot get Maya and Masumi out of his mind. While trying to figure out what happened on that cruise ship, he doesn't see a truck and has an accident.   EpiphanyMaya is at home. She keeps looking at the dolphin-shaped pendant Sakurakoji gave her and decides that she must give it back to him.
When she arrives at the Kids' Studio for the rehearsals she is informed about the accident. He has a broken leg and for a couple of months he won't be able to rehearse.
Naturally, she starts feeling guilty about the whole accident. She sent him back alone... Maybe if they had been together this wouldn't have happened!
Masumi Hayami is in his office.
Mizuki informs him about Sakurakoji's condition. They might need to replace him for the play. Masumi has no plan for this, he'll just wait and see what happens for the time being.
Then Mizuki asks him if Shiori hates purple roses, since she saw her tearing them apart and ordering not to get any more of them.
Masumi is puzzled.
Mizuki shows him a piece of a photo of Maya that she found in Shiori's car. Masumi is even more puzzled.
Later Masumi learns from Hijiri that a few days ago Maya received her own photo album torn into pieces, but in spite of that she told Hijiri that she still trusts her purple rose fan.
Finally Masumi goes to Izu to look for the photo album and can't find it... Who had access to his house? It's not difficult to understand that it was Shiori...
Masumi has an epiphany... Did Shiori understand the true identity of the purple rose fan?
Maya at the rehearsals, with the dolphin-shaped pendant in her hand, thinks of Sakurakoji and cries.
“Sakurakoji, my Isshin, is not at the rehearsals!”

| Volume 47 Sakurakoji wakes up at the hospital. Memories of the accident, of Maya and Masumi embracing each other come to his mind, but then he focuses on the rehearsals. He tries to get up but he's got a broken, plastered leg.
A nurse sees him and reprimands him. He is not allowed to move. It will take his leg 2 months to recover and he'd better relax.
Masumi remembers the scene when Maya asked him to wait for her...
“Maya, I still cannot believe it, I would have never thought this day would come... Just by staying next to her my heart feels complete and I feel euphoric... It's so sweet that it drives me crazy... I want to see her so much that I cannot resist... The blood is boiling in my veins... What is this feeling... Maya!...”
Then he thinks of Shiori... He has to be honest to her... A storm is about to come... He will do anything possible to protect Maya.
Then he receives a telephone call from Hijiri who informs him about what he found about Shiori.
   A new Isshin for SakurakojiAt Kid's Studio everybody is worried about Sakurakoji's condition. Only one month left before the show! Maya keeps crying and feeling guilty. She understands how important Sakurakoji was for her on stage. She cannot even think of a replacement for him...
Kuronuma looks at Maya heedfully.
Sakurakoji, in his room at the hospital, realizes how much he used to hope that his relationship with Maya would become the same as on stage... But now, most important than this, is playing the role of Isshin. Acting is the most important thing! Kuronuma is observing him, unseen from outside the door, while he tries to get up.
The following day, Sakurakoji arrives at Kid's Studio in crutches. He ignores Maya, doing nothing to hide the fact that he is angry at her. Kuronuma asks him to watch the rehearsals. At the end of the rehearsals, Kuronuma makes Maya go away with the others and remains alone with Sakurakoji.
Kuronuma realizes that Sakurakoji won't be completely recovered on time for the first show. The only thing to do is creating a new Isshin. He might have been injured with a sword, so it will be acceptable that he cannot move smoothly.
Maya is observing them from a distance. When she meets Kuronuma's eyes, she thanks him by lowering her head.           Risks of cancelling a wedding...Daito HQ. Mizuki is talking to Masumi about the appointment with Shiori to finish organizing the wedding ceremony. Masumi is turning his back to her, staring outside the window.
Mizuki is trying to get his attention: after all, it's his wedding! So Masumi asks her about the guests and the expensive arrangements. Mizuki explains every detail... There are going to be more than a thousand people invited!
Masumi observes that it's going to be a disaster if the whole thing is cancelled and asks Mizuki to estimate the damage in case this happened. There is a chance that the Takamiya family will become their enemy. Mizuki is astonished.
Onodera and Akame are invited by Utako to see Ayumi's rehearsals in a dark warehouse. | |

| Volume 48 Utako challenges her daughter. In the scene where Isshin throws away the chisels, refusing to create the sculpture, she has the light switched off, so that Ayumi has to use her sense of sound to collect the tools and bring them back to Akame - Isshin.
The lights are switched on again. Akame and Onodera praise Ayumi's performance, very mystic and convincing.
Finally Utako reveals Ayumi's condition, explaining that she will not undergo an operation before performing on stage for the trial show. Onodera is worried, but he doesn't have a choice. It's too late to look for another actress for the main role, moreover it would be pointless. He can only ask her to make sure the journalists won't find out about her condition. Of course they won't find out. After all, she is an actress.
During the break everyone congratulates Sakurakoji.
Maya is happy for him. Quietly, she goes out on the balcony at the back of the studio.
She is holding the dolphin-shaped pendant Sakurakoji gave her.
She wants to give it back to him, but this is not the right moment; that will be after the Crimson Goddess demonstration.
Then she thinks of Masumi Hayami. It seems that the night on the ship was just a dream...
But it wasn't. She remembers, hears, feels all of it: the rosy sky, the orange sun, the sound of waves, Masumi's arms...
Akoya's words are her own words...
"Hayami-san, purple rose fan, I'll wait for you..."
Pensive Sakurakoji is staring at her from a distance.
Masumi is at his villa in Izu, sitting on a chair, staring at the ocean and talking with Mizuki on the phone. He insists that he wants her to cancel the wedding and everything.
He looks around the house and for the first time realizes that it is decorated with a bad taste.
Masumi shares this opinion with a maid... The maid is quite shocked since Masumi never cared about this kind of things before. Masumi blushes.
Masumi is back to his thoughts.
“This villa is so badly decorated... Should I decorate this place with flowers? It's the first time that I change this place for someone... Maya, you're changing me... Please, wait for me. I want to welcome you here properly.”
Ayumi, who thanks to some injection no longer suffers with nausea and headache, insists not to have her eyes cured. He sight is getting worse and worse, but the doctor doesn't manage to convince her. Ayumi is going to rehearse again with Ondine Company. Everybody is excited at the big news!
While walking in the corridor Ayumi is afraid that someone might notice something is wrong with her sight.
A group of fans approaches and asks for autographs. It would be impossible for her to know where to sign... So she offers her fans a handshake instead. The fans are overjoyed.
Suddenly someone calls her... She turns toward this person, and she understand it's Hamil. He has just taken a photo of her.
Ayumi is annoyed and goes away quickly. Hamil looks at the photo and notices something...
All the journalists who would like to see the rehearsals are sent away and they are pretty annoyed about this. It's the first time it has happened!
Onodera urges Akame to keep the secret about Ayumi's sight.

| Volume 48 The rehearsals start. Everybody is quite shocked by Ayumi's new Goddess. She barely moves, while she used to dance so graciously before! Her face now is almost expressionless! At the same time, the new goddess is solemn, mystical, charming. Akame is really impressed. Not only she doesn't reveal her eyes condition, but she also uses it to improve her performance! She is a genius!
Hamil stares at her from a distance.
Suddenly Ayumi's sight gets blurry again. She can only use the sounds around her as a guide.
Everybody is impressed by Ayumi's expression and Onodera is happy with her performance, which is much deeper than before!
Hamil is still not convinced.
Akame/Isshin faces Ayumi holding an axe in his hand. Ayumi cannot see him.
Akame is petrified. Onodera and Hamil are startled. The audience is puzzled.
Journalists outside start spreading the rumor that Ayumi was at the hospital...
Ayumi, trembling, is standing in front of the axe.
After regaining her composure, she asks Akame/Isshin:
“What's wrong, my dear? Can't you cut me down?”
Akame plays along with Ayumi:
“I can't do it... I can't cut you down.. Even though I know you're not human.. I can't do it!”
Everyone watching is really impressed by her performance... Someone comments that they were so worried that they couldn't take their eyes off her... Onodera lets out a sigh of relief after hearing that.
The rehearsals are over, and Ayumi congratulates herself: that was close! She managed to act that far without relying on her eyes... She could even sense other people's shadows and colors in the darkness... Yet for a moment of carelessness, she might have failed... She has to be more careful...
Hamil is watching her.
In his house Hamil is looking at Ayumi’s photos which he has taken. He notices something strange; something is different between the photos taken in the Red Plum Valley and the recent photos... The following day Hamil comes to see Ayumi and hands her an envelope saying that those are the photos he has taken of her. He congratulates her on her amazing expressions, both as Akoya and Crimson Goddess.
Ayumi agrees and thanks Hamil... Hamil is startled. These are not Ayumi's photos!
Ayumi drops the photos and starts trembling... When did he find out about her eyes?
  Hamil and Ayumi go to the roof terrace to talk. Hamil explains that he noticed that her eyes were different when he compared the photos.
“You can fool anyone but you can't fool the camera...”
Hamil enquires about her condition... When did it start, what did the doctor say? Ayumi is very defensive, but Hamil insists. He informs her that he is taking all these photos of her because he wants to introduce her to the world, not just Japan.
He finally makes her talk. He finds out that the doctor did advise her to undergo surgery urgently, or she might become blind.
Hamil is very worried and upset.
Ayumi shouts at him that she is trying hard to practice without her eyes and that she will be able to play. She orders him not to tell anyone about her secret. She wants to play Crimson Goddess at any cost.
Later at a party, a lady greets Hamil and comments that it is strange to see him alone. There are actresses who want to be photographed by him. Why does he want to take pictures only of Ayumi Himekawa? Hamil replies that Ayumi is different from other actresses, but he doesn't know and he cannot explain why. Back to Ayumi's rehearsals.
Hamil appears and tells Ayumi that he is concerned about her. Ayumi insists that he doesn't need to.
She then asks him to turn the light off. This way he is like her, they both can't see anything. But she has memorized every part of the room and now she will try and find him in the darkness.
Having heard Hamil's footsteps, she is now able to locate him and she can walk towards him.
“The hide and seek game is over, my love, I know where you are now...”
Ayumi walks to Hamil and grabs his arm. Hamil takes out his lighter and lights it.
Under the dim light of the lighter, Ayumi is smiling at him and he blushes.

| Volume 48 Reporters have heard the rumors about Ayumi's condition and have gathered at the studio trying to find out. Ayumi is about to take the lift, but Hamil stops her and asks her to hold onto his arm and walk with him. When the reporters see them walk down the stairs, talking and laughing, they are easily convinced that the two are on a date. The couple exits the building, but the reporters are not quick enough to follow them. Lunch break at Kids Studio.
Sakurakoji keeps avoiding Maya, even though they used to eat together every day.
Maya eats on her own by the river. Kuronuma approaches her, determined to find out about what happened between the two of them.
Maya tells him that on the night Sakurakoji had an accident, she asked him to get back home alone.
However, it's quite obvious that she is hiding something...
Kuronuma asks her if she sent Sakurakoji home alone because she was with a special someone, and Maya is so embarrassed that Kuronuma doesn't need a reply to understand...
Kuronuma suspects that Maya didn't give back the cheque to Shiori but maybe she kept it for herself!
He then has someone make a telephone call to the cruise ship Astoria... So he finds out that Shiori actually didn't board for some reason, but the man she brought, he did board the ship...
Kuronuma is puzzled. Who did Maya give the cheque to?
Who should have been on a one-night cruise with Shiori? Masumi Hayami is the only one...
But that would mean that Maya and Masumi...
If so, why Maya would try to hide it?
What happened between Maya and her worst enemy?
And when Sakurakoji came to pick up Maya at the port he must have seen them... Is this connected with the accident?
"Sakurakoji... Kitajima... There is an invisible someone between them..."
Masumi received a telephone call from Hijiri while he was in his house by the seaside, in Izu.
Hijiri has informed him about what he has found about Shiori.
Shiori is waiting for Masumi in a place where they are going to plan their wedding. When she sees him, she gets up and smiles at him. She apologizes for making him worry recently (about her health condition).
Masumi kindly reassures her that there is no problem, and enquires if she is better now.
Of course she is. Also, she couldn't afford to rest now, there is a wedding to plan. The planner and other collaborators will be there soon...
Masumi informs her that this is not going to happen, since he has cancelled everything.
  Shiori is worried. Masumi doesn't explain any further but he asks her to show him her engagement ring. Then he tells her that his suspicions were right; it's not easy to slip that ring off her finger. The designer had to make it smaller for her.
Finally, he bluntly accuses Shiori of putting the ring in Maya's handbag.
Shiori is shocked and speechless.
Masumi goes on. He lets Shiori know that the CCTV in the shop where she tried the wedding dress showed clearly that Maya didn't pour the fruit juice on her dress.
Shiori objects that she said it was an accident, but Masumi tells her that nobody believed her, including himself, because the whole situation seemed to show that Maya was responsible for what happened. Also, Shiori didn't insist too much in defending Maya.
  Last but not least. Masumi shows Shiori some pieces of the photos she tore apart. He asks her if she remembers them. Shiori is petrified.
Masumi asks her why she did that. Why she sent them to Maya making her believe that it was from the purple rose fan. Shiori this time answers the question. It's because he is the purple rose fan. He has been supporting her all these years... A girl so much younger than him...
Masumi doesn't deny that:
“Yes, I am the purple rose fan.”
Shiori is more shocked than ever.
  So, does he admit having feelings for a girl who is 11 years younger than him? Sending her purple roses after every show? Paying for her education?
Yes. Masumi clearly explains to Shiori how he got charmed by Maya's energy and vitality on stage since her first show. Maya's performances have always been special to him. But Shiori is clearly satisfied by Masumi's answer. Is he just a fan? Since she realized that behind Masumi's cold mask was hidden a strong passion, she has hated Maya and she has tried to separate her from Masumi... Because she loves him!
Masumi thanks Shiori for being so straightforward, but claims that he is not worth her love (!).
Then he adds that there was no video camera in the atelier where she tried the wedding dress. Yes, he lied to her. Shiori herself was the one who confirmed the truth to him. As for all the other details, he had some research done, but there was no proof about the dress. Masumi is like that as far as business, he would use any means...
“Shall we reconsider our wedding, Shiori-san?”
Shiori starts talking about business, the merge between Daito and Takamiya... Blah blah blah...
Masumi insists that they are different: in the same places, they see different things. He looks at the stars above, she looks at the city below.
He realized that he couldn't marry her at the exact moment when he saw the room she had booked for the night on the cruise ship; he wanted to run away but the ship had just left.
He apologizes, but he will not be able to make her happy.
Shiori is confused and upset. She starts crying, but Masumi won't change his mind.
At some point Shiori understands that there is nothing she can do, and excuses herself. She must look horrible... She needs to go to the toilet...
But before doing that, she enquires if Masumi and Maya used the room on the cruise ship.
She is relieved to know that nothing happened in that room.

| Volume 48 When in the toilet, Shiori looks at herself in the pocket mirror. She finds herself horrible... No wonder Masumi despises her... Then she breaks the pocket mirror, grabs one shard of glass and in her mind asks her parents and grandparents for forgiveness... She can't stand the idea of losing Masumi... After a while Masumi gets worried because Shiori doesn't come back. He asks a cleaning lady to check... When he hears the woman screaming, he runs to see what happened: Shiori tried to cut her wrists (!).
The ambulance has been called.
Masumi is petrified. Then he rushes towards Shiori, removes his neck tie and binds it around her upper arm.
Daito HQ. Mizuki is rushing through the corridor, excusing herself by saying that she has an urgent appointment.
She jumps into the car and asks the driver to hurry up.
She remembers Masumi's words about cancelling the meeting with the wedding planner... Even so, she didn't imagine such a thing would happen...
  The Takamiyas and the Hayamis are having a meeting at the Takamiya mansion.
When Shiori came back from the emergency hospital, after her attempted suicide, they asked a specialist to see her... She hasn't spoken since.
Masumi and Eisuke can only say that they are sorry.
Being asked what he told Shiori to reduce her like that, Masumi answers that he just told her he couldn't make her happy.
Then why did he become engaged to her? Her parents explain to him how unhappy she's always been, since she's never had any friends because of her poor health condition...
Shiori's grandfather then invites Masumi to come and see his granddaughter.
Shiori is in her room. She has ordered loads of purple roses. She keeps tearing them apart repeating:
“Masumi-sama hates me... I hate purple roses... I wish them all withered...”
Scrunched up in an old smelly car, Kuronuma's group is driven to the place where the trail show will take place.
When Maya gets out of the car, she is astonished. There isn't any stage or set, just ruins, rocks, construction cones, and bits of concrete.
The staff is explained that the place used to be a train station and that Chigusa Tsukikage was the one who chose this place.
They can only rehearse at this place for only one day.
Maya looks around... The railways turn into streams of water, and the metal roof turns into trees. Maya is excited. She will be able to perform in that stage!
Soon afterwards, Onodera's group arrives and the journalists rush to take pictures of Ayumi. Onodera is worried. Ayumi feels uncomfortable and she fears that she might expose her health condition if she isn't careful.
Maya calls Ayumi. Ayumi recognizes her voice. She looks towards Maya but all she can see is a blurry silhouette.
While Maya and Ayumi are standing in front of each other, the event organizer announces that the press conference is about to start.

| Volume 49   The venue for the trial show is revealed Both Onodera's and Kuronuma's groups are taken to the place where the trial show will take place. It used to be a train station, now there are only ruins. There is no stage or set. Moreover, they can rehearse there only for one day. It was Chigusa Tsukikage who chose that place, claiming that the reason will be understood after the show.
Ayumi says that she could perform her Crimson Goddess everywhere. For Maya, this is like a game she used to play when she was a child, and she imagined that a slide was a castle. The journalists don't know what to think about Maya's comment, but Ayumi looks thoughtful. In spite of the uncomfortable situation, Kuronuma keeps talking about the games he used to play when he was a child.
After the interview Ayumi is asked to shake hands with Maya, but Ayumi knows that she can't do this: if she fails to find Maya's hand, everybody will understand that she cannot see. So she refuses to do it, pretending that her intention is to provoke Maya. Maya replies that she will not be defeated. Ayumi feels the breeze and thinks it's similar to the one in the valley of the red plum trees.
Maya and Kuronuma are imagining the play among the ruins. While looking at them, Sakurakoji understands that Maya's strong point is her imagination.

| Volume 49 Masumi is searching in the internet about Shiori's mental illness. He remembers seeing her destroy the purple roses and say how much she hates them.
The following day he goes to visit her, and she doesn't even seem to recognize him! Masumi feels responsible and guilty for Shiori’s condition. He calls Mizuki asking her to change the date for some meetings. As soon as he's finished he hears a scream coming from Shiori's room. He rushes to see what happened and he finds that Shiori has injured a nurse with some scissors and now she is using the scissors to destroy all the purple roses, screaming that they have to disappear. Masumi tries to stop her and he gets injured as well.
Masumi realizes that those roses represent Maya in Shiori's eyes, and by destroying them, Shiori would like to kill Maya.
Shiori's grandfather asks Masumi why Shiori behaves like that, but Masumi denies knowing what the roses mean to her. Once again, the old man begs Masumi to marry his granddaughter.
The following day, two housemaids are reading an article with photos of Maya and Ayumi. Shiori appears all of a sudden and scares them so much that they drop down the magazine they were reading and run away. Shiori tears away the page where Maya's photos appear and heads back to her room. She gathers all the roses on her bed and puts Maya's photos on the top, then sets fire to everything. The doctor arrives and finds Shiori laughing, surrounded by fire. Masumi is notified about this while he is at work. When he gets to the Takamiya's he finds Shiori still in what remains of the room. He notices bits of photos of Maya but doesn't understand what happened until one of the housemaids tells him about the magazine. | |

| Volume 49 At midnight everybody goes to sleep at Takamiya place. Masumi spends the night in a room next to Shiori's. He is devastated. He remembers embracing Maya, he is convinced that everything that happened is his fault, that the situation is getting dangerous for Maya, and wonders how to help Shiori recover from insanity. Shiori wakes up, picks up some roses and walks out. Masumi hears some noise, opens the door of his room and sees some roses scattered on the floor. He follows the trail of roses and sees Shiori drowning in a pool. He immediately dives in and saves her. She has only fainted.
Once more, old Takamiya begs Masumi to marry his granddaughter, and Masumi finally accepts.
“Forgive me, Maya.”
It's late at night and Ayumi had her chauffeur take her to the dismissed railway station so she can practise on her own.
Soon someone appears from the darkness... It's Hamil, following her as usual! He asks her to let him protect her.
Ayumi is too proud and cold to accept his help. Even later when during rehearsing she fells down some stairs, she refuses his help and stands up by her effort:
“On stage, nobody is able to help me!”
However, Ayumi's heart is slowly melting because of Hamil's sincerity and devotion. Ayumi is suddenly the Crimson Goddess, witnessed by Hamil's warm eyes.
Hamil is now more convinced than ever that Ayumi is the woman of his life.

| Volume 49 Kids Studio, rehearsals. Maya is in the bathroom washing her face, when she hears other actors commenting on the fact that Masumi Hayami is marrying Shiori. Maya doesn't want to believe this and dashes off to Daito HQ. Masumi is getting out of the building when she arrives. He greets her but keeps walking. Maya stops him and asks him if it's true that he is going to marry Shiori.
"Of course, you were there at my engagement party, you should know it already."
So, what about what happened on the cruise ship?
"Ah, that. Thanks to you I didn't get bored! Thanks, chibi-chan!"
Maya cannot believe this is Masumi Hayami: as cold as ice, with lifeless eyes. Masumi leaves, stating that he has no time to listen to her. Maya is shocked. She falls on her knees, sobbing. Mizuki is trying to cheer her up.
“He said that I have to trust him... He promised he would wait for me... Why, Hayami-san?”
Mizuki is speechless. When did all this happen? Since when is Maya in love with Masumi?
Maya goes back to the rehearsals, but she doesn't look like herself anymore. Sakurakoji understands. He then goes to talk to Masumi, informing him that he saw what happened after the cruise night, and asking him to leave Maya alone now. Masumi is engaged, and he is also aware of Sakurakoji's feelings for Maya.
Masumi coldly reassures him that Maya is his now, so he doesn't have to worry.
The day is over. Ayumi is at Studio X with Hamil again. She cannot understand the meaning of the lines she is reciting. God is in the wind, in the stones, everywhere... God is human too...
Ayumi feels humidity in the wind... It's going to rain soon, so she asks Hamil to go back home.
Hamil is surprised; he accidentally drops the car key. He cannot find it, but Ayumi helps him. Thanks to the sounds she heard, she is able to localize it perfectly. Hamil is amazed! Suddenly it starts raining, as Ayumi predicted. It's time to go home! While walking past Hamil who is holding his lighter, Ayumi perceives the moving flame. She remembers when she was practicing surrounded by candles... When she moves, the fire also moves... God is in the fire... Akoya's lines are clear to Ayumi now!
The more Ayumi understands the spirit of the Crimson Goddess, perceiving the movement of fire when she moves, while she can hear the sound of rain and the scent of air, the more she realizes that she has to live like the Crimson Goddess, not just act like her.

| Volume 49 Maya talks to Hijiri. She is desperate and begs him to organize a meeting with the purple rose fan. She cannot understand Akoya's and Isshin's feelings anymore and she doesn't care who her fan is, she just wants to meet them! Hijiri gives her a hug. Masumi is in his office with Mizuki, after another visit to Shiori. They are discussing the fact that after the wedding Masumi will live at the Takamiya's place. Mizuki starts questioning him.
What is he going to do with Maya? Maybe both of them have understood each other’s' feelings on the cruise ship? Did he realize that Maya is in love with him? Did Shiori understand everything? Is this why she attempted suicide and is now in that state? Is it Maya whom Shiori sees in the purple roses? Is it to avoid anything dangerous from happening to Maya that he accepted to marry Shiori?
Mizuki is Masumi's personal secretary for a reason! But he has decided. He will be what he used to be, and think only of business. And Maya? Well, the purple rose fan no longer exists.
Maya is now at Tsukikage's place to ask her for help and support. She cannot understand Akoya and Isshin anymore. The person she thought was her soul mate became cold and distant. Tsukikage notices that she grew up!
Does she love this person? Maya confirms she does.
Chigusa Tsukikage reassures her, if that person is really her soul mate, he suffers when she suffers and he is happy when she is happy. There must be a reason behind what he did.
This opens Maya's eyes. Later she goes back to the rehearsals with new strength.
Izu, Masumi's villa. Hijiri is instructed by Masumi never to send any more purple roses to Maya: she'd better never find out who the purple rose fan is. Masumi confirms to Hijiri that he is going to marry Shiori.
Hijiri asks him if he is serious, and once more Masumi confirms. Hijiri smiles and explains to Masumi that since he was young he has been trying to imitate him: everything Masumi liked, he liked it automatically.. From books to... people!
Hijiri thanks Masumi for letting him be the person who dealt with Maya. If Masumi seriously doesn't care, Hijiri will tell Maya that he is the purple rose fan himself... If Masumi really doesn't want her, he will take her... If Maya believes that Hijiri is the purple rose fan, surely she will love him!
While saying these words, Hijiri makes for the door... Masumi, shocked, throws a paper cutter at him, slightly injuring his neck and hitting the door. Then he adds:
“Hijiri, please forgive me. But please, don't do it. If you did, I could even kill you!”
Hijiri removes the cutter from the door and brings it back to Masumi.
“Finally you've opened your heart. Think about how you are feeling now. You would be able to kill me if you thought that I want to take Maya away from you. You cannot marry someone only because you feel responsible for them, nobody is going to be happy this way. You've always been attracted to Maya... Confess your feelings to her, tell her who you are and conquer your happiness in spite of any storm that might occur later. Now if you don't mind I am leaving. I will arrange things so that Maya can meet her purple rose fan.”
While in the car, Hijiri thinks of Masumi and wishes him happiness... This is Hijiri's only wish!

While in the car, he thinks that he has stopped playing the part of Eisuke's son. He will live his own life from now on. Hijiri informs Maya that she will finally be able to meet her purple rose fan in Izu. Maya thinks of Masumi's villa in Izu... Finally she will meet Masumi Hayami, her purple rose fan! | Μια έξτρα ιστορία από τη Γυάλινη Μάσκα, που κυκλοφόρησε το 2016 σαν ένα αφιέρωμα στη γιορτή του Αγίου Βαλεντίνου. Amour du Chocolat – S.Valentine 2016    Tsukikage gives Ayumi and Maya a new task, which is to prepare some chocolates for Valentine's Day. The challenge, called "Love method" involves preparing chocolates while thinking of the loved one. Tsukikage gives the girls some basic ingredients and explains the rules to them.
The girls have one week. Ayumi's chocolates will be judged by Onodera and Akame, Maya's by Kuronuma and Sakurakoji. The executive committee and the press will also taste the chocolates and the winner will be officially announced.
Most people are convinced that Ayumi will win the competition since she's used to learning from professionals and chefs. Meanwhile, we can see someone in the dark carrying some bags like those the girls are given...
Maya does some research at home, then calls Sayaka and Rei and they decide to add butter and almonds to the ingredients.
Ayumi instead gets help from a famous chef. Later, when she talks to her nanny, she reveals that she decided to think of a gentleman to send very fine chocolates to.
In his office, Hayami asks Tsukikage why this challenge. Tsukikage tells him that he asks because he doesn't know what it means to be honest in love...
"Where are your Valentine's chocolates? Have you ever tasted chocolates made by someone who is in love?"
Masumi is speechless. He only had chocolates in social occasions.
That's also a reason why Tsukikage didn't give him the rights to the Crimson Goddess.
Later, Masumi on his own thinks of Tsukikage's words.
Maya reads a message from the purple rose fan, and her strong feelings motivate her. She wants to make the chocolates for the man who always supported her... Remembering the planetarium, her heart beating fast, she makes up her mind...
"I'll make them thinking of you... So I can see you smile when you taste them".
Ayumi uses high quality brandy and champagne and experiments with hot and cold in order to reach the perfect consistency for her chocolates.
One week later, it's the big day!
The girls arrive with their chocolates.
Meanwhile, the cleaning staff finds something suspicious in the cleaning cupboard.
The journalists comment on how Ayumi’s chocolates seem to be of a very high quality, but Maya's can almost be tasted by just looking at them.
Sakurakoji understands that Maya's chocolates are for the purple rose fan, and feels a pain in his chest.
Tsukikage sensei asks the girls what inspired them when they made the chocolates.
Ayumi explains that she used the finest ingredients thinking of the fine taste of her loved one. Tsukikage asks her if she thought of her stage partner, and Ayumi is speechless, as she didn't.
Tsukikage turns to Maya but before the girl can start explaining, someone enters the room together with cleaning and security staff and interrupts the event.
It turns out that the National Drama Association has received a threat letter ordering them to stop all preparations for the "Crimson Goddess". Moreover, in a locker in the cleaning cupboard, a suspicious jar has been found...
Someone from the jury notices that there is one bag of chocolates on the table... So, maybe some chocolates are poisoned?
Tsukikage sensei is not worried. Lots of people have tried to get the rights for the Crimson Goddess but she won't give in!
She insists that the competition continues.
The girls are now questioned how they prepared the chocolates.
Ayumi explains that she worked on her own, but Maya admits that Rei and Sayaka helped her and ate the chocolates that didn't come out well. Satisfied, Tsukikage declares that this confirms that the threat letter was just an act.
Tsukikage then asks Onodera and Akame to try Ayumi's chocolates but both refuse. Ayumi is irritated, but not hurt. Even if they worked together for a long time, Akame is not her real Isshin.
It's now Kuronuma's and Sakurakoji's turn. Kuronuma refuses to try the chocolates, but Sakurakoji is willing to do it.
However, Maya prevents him from doing it, screaming that he shouldn't take the risk. So Sakurakoji doesn't taste her chocolates, either.
Suddenly and unexpectedly, Masumi Hayami enters the room.
He claims that that competition is very important for the preparation to the Crimson Goddess. Even if he is told about the threat and Maya tries to approach him, Masumi doesn't stop. Masumi notices the chocolates are shaped like rose petals and stars and guesses that Maya has made them. The chocolates' appearance is not great, and Masumi fondly teases Maya.
Maya turns her back, annoyed, saying that he came all the way there to make fun of her, but anyway nobody will eat those chocolates.
Masumi asks Tsukikage for permission to take part in the selection process. And so he does.
He first tastes Ayumi's chocolates. They are absolutely perfect in color, shape and taste. But they seem to be created with a first class hotel in mind. There is a lot of pride in their taste.
Ayumi is shocked. Masumi hit the nail in its head!
Maya shyly confesses that she prepared the chocolates thinking of her purple rose fan. She describes her chocolates: the stars are like shooting stars and represent the Milky Way. She looks at Masumi in the eyes: "I love the sky full of stars. One day the Crimson Goddess will also shine in a starry sky".
Masumi tastes both the rose-petal-shaped and the star-shaped chocolates made by Maya.
Maya is shaking with fear.
Tsukikage sensei is impressed by Masumi's behaviour.
Masumi describes the taste of Maya's chocolates like they were made by someone who worked with a lot of passion... Surely the person who receives those chocolates will be very happy.
He gives a little tap on Maya's head and congratulates her: "Chibi-chan, you won". Then he leaves.
"Hayami san, wait!", Maya runs to him, grabbing his arm, worried about his health.
"I'm fine. You can't lose this challenge. If I go to the hospital, come visit me."
Then before he leaves:
"I had never tasted Valentine's chocolates made with love... This is my first time. Thanks, chibi-chan".
Everybody is shocked by Masumi's words, especially Maya.
Tsukikage claps her hands. The challenge is over. She also reveals that the threat (letter, extra chocolates, suspicious jar) was all an act, and she was behind it! Genzo helped her. The jar contained... Vanilla extract!
Finally Tsukikage explains that the real meaning of this challenge was evaluating the emotional and mental process of making the chocolates for a loved one, and also evaluating the reaction of those who received it (Onodera, Akame, Kuronuma, Sakurakoji).
Onodera and Akame are disappointed and shocked. Kuronuma is embarrassed.
Sakurakoji realizes that he didn't eat the chocolates because Maya told him not to... But unlike Masumi, he actually didn't eat them.
He realizes that he failed as Isshin, and that he lost to Masumi Hayami!
The press and all the other guests are offered chocolates and soon all the dramatic events are forgotten.
Ayumi still thinks about her failure.
Maya still holds the chocolates she made, thinking of Masumi who was the only one who ate them.
Everybody agrees that Maya's chocolates are not as beautiful as Ayumi's but equally delicious.
Maya: "I love you, Hayami-san! One day I will tell you. One day I want to make chocolates for you!"
And then, thinking of the Crimson Goddess: "Even if I am not prepared enough, I want to express my feelings. Hayami-san! Purple rose fan!"
  At Daito Art Production, Mizuki fills in Masumi with the latest updates and notices that he is smiling for a change. Masumi asks her not to mind, but then he tells her about Maya's badly shaped chocolates... It's the first time he has received Valentine's chocolates! Mizuki bursts into laughter, surely those are not the first ones he's received! Masumi calmly replies, while eating a star-shaped chocolate, that it's better to receive just one chocolate made with love... One chocolate that fills the heart with happiness...
Mizuki is dumbfounded. Masumi asks her for black coffee, as usual.
  At home, Genzo and Tsukikage discuss.
Tsukikage is very satisfied with the result. Ayumi's perfection and Maya's passion... The chocolates show the girls' personalities.
Ayumi is sad; she has been relentlessly rehearsing trying to grasp the essence of a performance full of love. She is determined not to lose to Maya.
Tsukikage thinks of Maya. And of Masumi who ate her chocolate.
"Love is an unpredictable miracle. Maybe it won't be long until we can see a big change in him."
Genzo asks for an explanation, but Tsukikage doesn't give any; instead, she thanks him for the chocolates he made for her. They are delicious, and make her feel loved and at peace.

| Ένα κεφάλαιο από τη Γυάλινη Μάσκα που δεν κυκλοφόρησε σε τόμο, αλλά στο περιοδικό Betsuhana που ανέβαζε αυτό το μάνγκα σε συνέχειες. Το συγκεκριμένο κεφάλαιο κυκλοφόρησε μετά τον τόμο 47. Είναι στα ιαπωνικά αλλά υπάρχει και μια μετάφραση στα αγγλικά που βρήκα σε κάποιο σχετικό φόρουμ. We’re at Hayami’s before dawn.
Masumi has been searching all night through internet, looking for information about mental illness and after he reads the possible causes of this illness he breaks the glass he had on his hand on the table.
He has also given Mizuki some specific instructions and, seeing it’s time to go to work, he takes a shower and gets dressed.
He goes down for breakfast where he appears refreshed and more relaxed, so that Eisuke asks him: “What’s the matter? You have a more relaxed face. Did you make any resolution?”
Masumi replies: “Yes”.
Eisuke: “Then I’m glad. Shiori-san is such a sensitive woman. You’re a lucky man. Although you didn’t want to make the wedding, now you’ll be able to put your hands on the top seat of the Takamiya’s Enterprises”.
Masumi: “Yes, father. Now I’d like you to understand these two things: First, I’ll be absent from work for a while. I have given Mizuki some detailed instructions so that there won’t be any problem, and I’ll be back for the important meetings and to sign the contracts. Second, I won’t stay at home but in a hotel in Tokyo during this time. Later some of my co-workers will come to take my stuff. Is that ok, father?”
Eisuke: “What does that mean? You have no other interests than work and now you want to rest, Masumi?”
Masumi: “I’m going to leave this house and I’ll go to Takamiya’s house for a while”.
Eisuke: “I see... and till when?”
Masumi: “I don’t know...It depends on how long Shiori-san wants it”.
Eisuke: “I see...This is such an important time, and you want to be near Shiori who has suffered so much because of you... What a praiseworthy fiancé you are...Do your best to make her grandpa love you, Masumi!”
Masumi: “Thanks, father”.
Then he thinks: “Father, I won’t follow your orders anymore...”
The scene changes. We’re now at the Kids Studio where after a hard practice in the morning everybody is having lunch. A member of the staff calls for Sakurakoji so that he takes his luncheon box. Maya gets up to take it instead of Sakurakoji but he ignores her and goes to take it on his own. They used to have lunch together but not this time.
Maya goes to the river to eat her lunch and wonders what has happened to Sakurakoji. “Is it possible that he’s ignoring me?”
Kuronuma sees all this happening and calls Maya to eat together with him. The truth is that he wants to understand what has happened between Maya and Sakurakoji.
She tells him about when she told Sakurakoji to go back on his own. Then she explains that she went on board because of the check but... Kuronuma realizes she’s hiding something so he does some research and finds out that Maya and Masumi both spent that night on the cruise ship.
Takamiya’s house, Shiori’s room. She’s still tearing up the roses. Masumi grabs the roses she’s holding into her hands and takes them away from her by force.
Shiori’s maids are shocked because of his behaviour but he insists ordering them to throw away all the roses in that room. He insists that they have to “throw them all away!”
As the maids obey Shiori looks at Masumi and asks him: “Who are you? Why have you got such a violent behaviour?”
Masumi: “I’m Masumi Hayami and I was your fiancé”.
Shiori: “No, that’s not true. Masumi-sama is a more gentle man. He’s always ready to grant all my wishes, always smiling; you can’t be Masumi-sama!”
Masumi: “No, this is the real me. Look at me carefully. I shout loud and I use every dirty means to obtain what I want at work, even lying shamelessly. The Masumi you’re searching for doesn’t exist; it’s just your imagination…”
Then he grabs her and makes her get off the bed.
“Come on, wake up! Stop locking all you have got in your heart!”
Shiori's grandfather arrives shouting: “Why are you using such violence, Masumi-kun?! Shiori is sick and weak and yet you…”
“This is why I want to make her heal! ” Masumi shouts too. “If she’s ill because of me I can make her well but she needs to have the strength to live. If she doesn’t from now on she’ll be ill every time she suffers. Is that alright for you?”
“Masumi-kun, are you scolding me?”
“Yes, because if Shiori has grown up considering herself weak it’s because of you! You are responsible!”
“What…”
“Because of her health you have spoiled and pampered her, always protected her from pain. This is how she grew up, keeping away all the bad things, and she didn’t learn anything from life!”
“Masumi-kun, how dare you talk to me in such a way...”
“Yes… I’m ill-mannered and violent, thus I can’t marry your precious granddaughter”.
“What?”
“Remember that, Mr. Takamiya! I’m not like my father. I don’t care about your money or about the position you offer me because of a marriage. Do you think a man like me would make Shiori happy? What I can do right now is try to open her heart and give her the strength to face the truth!”
He opens the curtains. The sun is shining and the garden is full of flowers. Shiori looks at the setting while he keeps talking. “It’s such a wonderful day that it’s a waste to remain locked up in a room”.
Then he describes the nature outside...
Shiori seems to come back to her senses; she looks at Masumi.
“Masumi...sama?”
The maids and her grandpa rejoice. Then she looks at her wrists for the first time and starts crying and falling slowly on the floor.
The scene changes to the Kids studio where the rehearsals continue.
Kuronuma gives the hatchet to Sakurakoji who takes it with one hand (while he keeps the crutches with the other hand) and because it is heavy his hand trembles.
Kuronuma says:
“Kitajima, go there and act as the plum tree soul; now we’ll act the scene where Sakurakoji cuts the plum tree as Isshin...”
Kuronuma wants this scene to have a big impact of reality on the audience. Maya is at the top of the pyramid while Sakurakoji is at the bottom...

| Η Γυάλινη Μάσκα κυκλοφόρησε σε συνέχειες στο περιοδικό Hana to Yume πριν εκδοθεί σε τόμους. Εδώ ανεβάζω ένα μέρος από τον τόμο 37, τη σκηνή που η Μάγια και ο Μασούμι πέρασαν τη νύχτα στο ναό, όπως κυκλοφόρησε νωρίτερα στο περιοδικό, στα τεύχη 260 και 261. Κάποιες από τις εικόνες είναι ίδιες όπως και στον τόμο 37, κάποιες άλλες είναι διαφορετικές και ορισμένες έχουν αφαιρεθεί. Η πλοκή όμως ουσιαστικά παραμένει η ίδια. Δυστυχώς δεν έχω μετάφραση, ούτε στα αγγλικά. Αλλά όσοι έχουν διαβάσει τον τόμο 37 σ' αυτή την ενότητα θα θυμούνται την υπόθεση. | |
